Smoking tied to baby happiness

Published: April 11. 2008 4:00AM PST

Women who quit smoking when they became pregnant were likely to have more cheerful babies than either mothers who smoked during the pregnancy or nonsmoking moms, according to a new report from the University of York in England.

The study is based on information provided by 18,000 women whose infants were born between 2000 and 2002. The moms were asked about how their babies responded to new things and their general mood.
