REDMOND — National Senior Pro Rodeo action returns to Central Oregon this spring for a weekend of roping and riding for the silver-haired set.

Cowboys and cowgirls age 40 and older — many from across the United States and Canada — are expected to be part of the competition staged during the weekend of May 31-June 1 at the Deschutes County Fair & Expo Center.

The May 31 performance has been designated as a Tour Rodeo, in which contestants will compete for triple points in addition to a piece of the prize purse. Points won at National Senior Pro Rodeo Association events staged throughout the year at sites in the NPSRA’s six circuits qualify contestants for the Senior National Finals Rodeo, this year scheduled for Nov. 4-9 in Winnemucca, Nev.

Tickets for the rodeo in Redmond cost $7 and can be purchased in advance at Spotted Mule in Bend and at Saddle Up Saddlery in Redmond. Kids age 6 and younger will be admitted free.

Craftspersons and vendors are welcome to rent space at the rodeo for $50 for one day or $75 for both days. Clubs, groups or organizations seeking a fundraising opportunity can arrange to do so by selling advance tickets to the rodeo.

Also, a golf tournament — the Ride-N-Ropin’ Open — is being staged in conjunction with the rodeo. The tournament will take place on May 30 on the Resort Course at Eagle Crest Resort.

For more information on the rodeo or the golf tournament, contact Doug White at 350-0565.
