Satisfy your craving for dining outside

The following undoubtedly incomplete list features a selection of local restaurants that offer outside dining options. Information is subject to change.

Mountain views

38 Degrees

Type of cuisine: Mediterranean

Description of outdoor seating: Patio and bar deck offer seating for 60. No heating features.

Highlights: Good for enjoying a pitcher of sangria and an assortment of tapas, or small plates, during the summer months. Restaurant managers say that 38 Degrees has some of the best views of the mountains of any of the area’s public, non-resort restaurants. The eatery is considering building an outdoor kitchen, which would make skewers and tapas for outdoor diners.

Blue Olive

Address: 16986 S.W. Brasada Ranch Road, Powell Butte

Type of cuisine: Steakhouse featuring numerous seafood selections

Description of outdoor seating: The large deck at this restaurant, part of Brasada Ranch, can seat about 50 people. The space includes areas that are covered and spaces open to the sun. Diners sit on metal chairs and eat on stone tabletops. Heating is available.

Highlights: The views are stunning, with rolling farmlands framed by the mountains in the distance. It is particularly nice place to watch the sunset. The seating also includes a protective glass wall to keep the wind down. Other nice touches include an outside fireplace, comfy rocking chairs and couch-like seating.

Old Mill Martini Bar

Address: 360 S.W. Powerhouse Dr., Bend

Type of cuisine: High-end healthy cuisine

Description of outdoor seating: Second-floor patio with metal tables and chairs.

Highlights: The balcony offers views of the Cascade Mountains in a hip setting.

Terrebonne Depot

Type of cuisine: New American

Description of outdoor seating: The only deck in Central Oregon with views of Smith Rock and the Cascades. Seating for 50 people.

Highlights: Captivating views of Smith Rock and the Oregon Cascades. Seating available in both sun and shade, with an occasional train on the nearby tracks.

River or lakeside

Anthony’s at the Old Mill

Description of outdoor seating: Heat lamps, two large fireplaces and seating for 150 on large, paved patios.

Highlights: Unobstructed views of the Deschutes River and good Old Mill people-watching. Lap blankets are available for those who get a little chilly.

Bend Brewing Company

Description of outdoor seating: Six outdoor tables, comfortably seating 35 to 40 people. Umbrellas available.

Highlights: With a view of Mirror Pond and trees providing shade from above, the BBC offers quiet and intimate outdoor dining along with its full menu and hand-crafted beer.

The Boathouse Restaurant

Address: 13300 N. U.S. Highway 20, Sisters

Type of cuisine: Northwestern upscale dining; lunch is a little more casual

Description of outdoor seating: 12-15 tables on a dock on Suttle Lake

Highlights: The views are lovely, with the lake, pine trees and abundant wildlife including bald eagles, ducks, geese and osprey. Diners can also watch people fishing and boating on the lake.

Fireside Red, An American Tapas Lounge

Address: 803 S.W. Industrial Way, Suite 202, Bend

Type of cuisine: Globally inspired cuisine with various portion sizes and savory flavors, served as an appetizer or with other tapas as a meal

Description of outdoor seating: Spacious view on raised deck that overlooks the Deschutes River, Les Schwab Amphitheater and the Old Mill, with seating for 100.

Highlights: Large umbrellas, heaters, blankets, spacious view from above Old Mill. Southern exposure means all-day sun with a beautiful sunset. Occasional live music.

Greg’s Grill on the Deschutes

Address: 395 S.W. Powerhouse Drive, Bend

Type of cuisine: Northwest Lodge American featuring grilled steaks, rotisserie chicken, fish

Description of outdoor seating: 56 patio dining seats and 12 bar patio dining seats. Large fire pit with seating surrounding it.

Highlights: Located in the Old Mill shopping area; view includes the adjacent Deschutes River as well as Mount Bachelor and all of the surrounding mountains. Outdoor heaters and fire pit.

Pine Tavern Restaurant

Address: 967 NW Brooks St., Bend

Type of cuisine: Northwestern

Description of outdoor seating: 16 tables seat up to 80 people. Heaters and umbrellas included for the mostly shady patio.

Highlights: Natural shade and lush views of Drake Park and Mirror Pond, where ducks and swans paddle by. During the summer’s Munch & Music festival, the sounds float down the river to diners.

Red Robin

Type of cuisine: Gourmet burgers

Description of outdoor seating: 30 seats, most with umbrellas, fit snugly on the outdoor patio

Highlights: Unobstructed view of the Deschutes River, good for people-watching and listening to music events at the Les Schwab Amphitheater.

Gardens, patios and decks

Ariana

Type of cuisine: Upscale French, Italian and Spanish cuisine

Description of outdoor seating: Enclosed patio with a high fence; seats about 30 people

Highlights: This restaurant offers full service, complete with white tablecloths, on the patio. The private seating includes lights and torches in a garden-like setting. Heaters are also available when necessary.

Baldy’s Barbeque

Address: 235 S.W. Century Drive, Bend

Type of cuisine: Barbecue

Description of outdoor seating: Roughly 50 seats located on the restaurant’s side patio. Heat lamps are available and half the seats are protected by a sunscreen.

Highlights: This is the first full year the west-side restaurant will have its finished patio available. It’s big enough to hold live music events and a full bar.

Chow

Type of cuisine: Rustic, fresh new American style

Description of outdoor seating: Limited outside seating on the deck now, but much larger outside seating section will open within the next few weeks. This will include seating for about 50 people on a patio.

Highlights: The seating is located on about a third of an acre of grass with flowers. The restaurant plans to offer live music as well.

Coyote Creek Cafe

Highlights: A horseshoe pit and lawn and garden surround diners with flowers and planter boxes.

El Caporal East

El Jimador

Description of outdoor seating: 32 seats bordering the restaurant on the corner of Wall Street and Franklin Avenue.

Highlights: Great downtown people-watching, close proximity to Drake Park, where music events and festivals often take place.

Jake’s Diner

Type of cuisine: American, specializing in breakfast items

Description of outdoor seating: The deck seats about 25 people at five metal-and-glass tables. The area has spots of sun and shade; tables in the sun feature umbrellas.

Highlights: The comfortable, pretty setting includes two water features that bring a nice sound to the area. The seating is far off the road and away from the noise of the highway.

Kebaba

Address: 1004 N.W. Newport Ave., Bend

Type of cuisine: Modern Middle Eastern

Description of outdoor seating: Roughly 40 seats available on the covered deck, front porch and patio below.

Highlights: Trees around this Craftsman-style restaurant offer natural shade, with heat lamps keeping diners warm in the evening. This west-side eatery has limited seating inside, so owners converted the deck into the “Kebubble,” in which plastic walls keep diners warm during the cooler months. Owners say the Kebubble will be taken down once the weather warms up.

Longboard Louie’s

Type of cuisine: Mexican

Description of outdoor seating: The west-side location offers at least 50 picnic table seats, while the east-side location has roughly 34 seats at tables, most of which have umbrellas.

Highlights: The west-side location offers natural shade that pairs well with the picnic table seating arrangements. The patio is decorated with old ski gear and twinkling lights.

McKay Cottage

Type of cuisine: Casual comfort food

Description of outdoor seating: About 60 people can sit in the expansive lawn dining area, featuring glass tables with umbrellas.

Highlights: Picturesque outdoor seating. The lawn features flowering gardens, big elm trees, a stream and a pond. The lilacs are currently in bloom.

McMenamins Old St. Francis School

Address: 700 N.W. Bond. St., Bend

Description of outdoor seating: Guests can choose from one of several sunny patios and courtyards on the property.

Highlights: Beautiful gardens and plants, comfortable seating, outdoor fire pits for chilly evenings, colorful artwork and friendly service.

Mother’s Juice Cafe

Address: 1255 N.W. Galveston Ave., Bend

Type of cuisine: Fresh deli and fruit smoothies

Description of outdoor seating: Eight seats available on the back patio, with at least 20 more seats available at tables on the front patio.

Highlights: The restaurant recently ordered extra umbrellas to shade the tables, which face Galveston Avenue and the rear of the restaurant.

Parrilla Grill

Address: 635 N.W. 14th St., Bend

Type of cuisine: Wraps, burritos, tacos, quesadillas and drinks

Description of outdoor seating: The restaurant offers about 10-15 tables on a patio with shade on one portion and sun on another.

Highlights: Diners can watch cars cruise through the roundabout while snacking on wraps. The restaurant also plans outdoor concerts beginning July 11.

Seventh Street Brew House

Description of outdoor seating: 8 picnic tables, horseshoe pits

Highlights: This 14-year-old brew house has outdoor seating with natural shade from trees and a kid-friendly setup complete with a horseshoe pit.

South Bend Bistro
