Reggae alert: Perfect plays The Summit

Published: May 15. 2009 4:00AM PST

It feels like a year ago all over again.

In the winter of 2007-08, The Summit Saloon & Stage buzzed with music most nights, and often, that music was reggae, or at least some offshoot or cousin of the genre.

Last summer, though, the bar’s bookings halted, quieting the pulsating island sounds.

But fear not, reggae fans. The vibe is back.

On Tuesday night, Jamaican artist Perfect will perform at The Summit, bringing a style that’s more in the party-friendly dancehall vein than the ultra-chill roots-reggae sound.

Check him out at www .myspace.com/giddimani or www.myspace.com/perfect fromjamaica.

The latter has the man’s song “I Smoked a Spliff,” to the tune of Katy Perry’s hit “I Kissed a Girl.” It’s worth hearing … once.

While you’re online, check out The Summit’s new Web site, www.summitsaloon.com. The calendar looks promisingly full.

Perfect, with Serious De Witness, MC Mystic and DJ Elusive ; 9 p.m. Tuesday; free; The Summit Saloon & Stage, 125 N.W. Oregon Ave., Bend; 541-749-2440 or www.summitsaloon .com.
