The Oregon Children’s Theatre has a golden ticket to the wacky world of Willy Wonka — a world with Oompa-Loompas, chocolate rivers and candy of all shapes and sizes.
Based on the classic story by Roald Dahl, “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” will run Oct. 31, Nov. 7-8, Nov. 14-15 and Nov. 21-22 at the Newmark Theatre in Portland. It kicks off the 2009-2010 season of the Oregon Children’s Theatre, which also includes “The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs” (Feb. 27-March 21) and the world premiere of Louis Sachar’s “Small Steps” (April 24-May 16).
Dramatized by Richard R. George, “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” follows Charlie Bucket, Augustus Gloop, Violet Beauregarde, Veruca Salt and Mike Teavee on their tour of the legendary Wonka factory.
The play runs 65 minutes with no intermission, and it is suitable for all ages.
Founded in 1989, the Oregon Children’s Theatre is the state’s largest nonprofit professional children’s theater company, according to a press release. A resident company of the Portland Center for the Performing Arts, the organization is dedicated to creating performances that connect with children and adults.
