Hike to highlight plants for beer

Published: June 09. 2012 4:00AM PST

Registration is under way for a guided, beer-themed hike through the Deschutes Land Trust’s Whychus Canyon Preserve.

The land trust and Deschutes Brewery are putting on a free Beers Made By Walking hike from 9 a.m. to noon Friday. Space is limited, and registration is required.

Deschutes brewer Veronica Vega will talk about edible plants along the trail that will go into the brewery’s beer. Deschutes Land Trust volunteer and local naturalist Jane Meissner will share her botanical knowledge.

The hike will be three to four miles and is considered moderate in difficulty. Directions to the starting location will be provided after registration.
