Bend police are investigating an accident Wednesday night in which a vehicle left Mt. Washington Drive and went down an embankment.
The driver fled the scene and it was unknown whether anyone else was in the vehicle or whether anyone was injured. The vehicle was unoccupied when police arrived at the scene.
According to Adam Juhnke, a Bend Police Department patrol officer, at approximately 10:35 p.m. a vehicle heading eastbound on Mt. Washington Drive went over the median, off the north side of the pavement and down an embankment estimated at between 50 and 100 feet. Upon impact, Juhnke said the vehicle became engulfed.
Juhnke said the driver fled the scene. No one was in the vehicle upon official's arrival, so injuries are unknown. Police are seeking the identity of the owner and other information concerning the vehicle.
