• Kurt Busch wins Nationwide race: Kurt Busch won a wild Nationwide Series NASCAR race at Daytona International Speedway on Friday night in Daytona Beach, Fla., holding off three challengers over the final hundred yards in a battered race car. Busch’s victory was his second this season, each with different teams. He won for his brother, Kyle Busch Motorsports, at Richmond earlier in the year. He took the checkered flag for Phoenix Racing on Friday. The race had several crashes that left less than half the field on the lead lap for a green-white-checkered finish. Busch started the two-lap sprint pushing Austin Dillon, but made a move to the front with a lap left and then held off Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Michael Annett and Dillon as they neared the finish line. Stenhouse was second, followed by Annett, Dillon and Joey Logano.

• Johnny Gray tops Funny Car qualifying: Johnny Gray raced to the Funny Car qualifying lead Friday in the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio, with a run if 4.094 seconds at 306.33 mph. Steve Torrence led Top Fuel qualifying, Allen Johnson topped the Pro Stock field, and Hector Arana Sr. had the Pro Stock Motorcycle lead. Torrence had a run of 3.829 at 319.98, Allen Johnson finished in 6.663 at 207.34, and Arana Sr. in 6.962 at 188.02 mph.
