Painting in the park

Instructor Lian Zhen shows students Carol Gildar, from Chicago, (center) and Jo Senters, from Portland, how to paint the shadows of the cliffs along the Deschutes River as part of the Art in the Mountains watercolor landscapes workshop Tuesday at the Riverbend Park pavilion. Zhen, who was a medical doctor before coming to the U.S. and getting degrees from both UC Berkeley and MIT, has written three books on watercolor art which can be found online at www.lianspainting.com.
