Robert Hughes, 74: Art critic and author with a confrontational style whose books and TV programs on art history gained him a following in his native Australia and around the world. Died Monday at a hospital in New York after a long illness.

Ranking Trevor, 60: Pioneer of rap reggae during the 1970s in a style known as “toasting," which inspired hip hop. Died Tuesday in Kingston, Jamaica, in a motorcycle accident.

Stuart Swanlund, 54: Guitarist for the Marshall Tucker Band, known for the hit “Heard It In a Love Song." Died Saturday at his home in Chicago.
