Malheur Lumber Co., a subsidiary of Prineville-based Ochoco Lumber Co., will close its John Day mill Nov. 1, according to a news release issued Friday. The company’s Malheur Pellet Mill, which produces wood pellets and bricks, will continue operations, the news release stated.
The mill, which was built in 1983, employs about 90 people in production and management, according to Ochoco Lumber’s website. The news release gave no details about the number of layoffs, and company officials were not available Friday.
