Russell Train, 92: Former head of the Environmental Protection Agency and first president of the World Wildlife Fund’s American chapter. Died Sept. 17 in Maryland.
Louis Simpson, 89: Pulitzer Prize-winning poet who told tales of common people and often cast a skeptical eye on the American dream. Died Friday at his home in Stony Brook, N.Y.
Santiago Carrillo, 97: Veteran Spanish Communist Party leader and Civil War combatant; he spent 38 years in exile in France. Died Tuesday at his home in Madrid.
