Eleanor Lila Barnes of Idaho Falls, ID, died September 29, 2012, at the age of 79.
Eleanor was born November 11, 1932, in Wetonka, S.D., to Oscar and Florence (Voss) Champlin. She grew up and attended school in S.D., graduating from Hecla High School as class valedictorian.
On April 21, 1951, she married Glenn J. Barnes in Aberdeen, S.D. In 1953, Glenn and Eleanor and their daughter, Andrea, moved to Iran and spent five years working with and serving the Iranian people. Their oldest son, LeRoy, was born in Tabriz, Iran.
Eleanor returned to Downey, ID, in 1958, and shortly after her return, their second son, Kent, was born. They made their home in southern Idaho for 3 years. In 1961, she and Glenn relocated from Idaho to Redmond, OR.
Eleanor graduated from COCC in 1969, with a degree in nursing. She worked at Central Oregon District Hospital for over 25 years. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints. She served in many church callings.
In her free time, Eleanor enjoyed cooking, and spending time with her grandchildren and family. She loved to travel especially to the Oregon Coast. She always made sure family trips to South Dakota contained a new adventure.
In 2006, Eleanor moved back to Idaho, and lived in Idaho Falls until her death.
She is survived by two sons, LeRoy Barnes of Lebanon, NH and Kent (Terri) Barnes of Redmond, OR; a daughter, Andrea (George) Poppleton of Idaho Falls, ID; three brothers, Jerry, Paul, and Gene; three sisters, Evelyn, Claire and Helen; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn in 1997; a grand daughter, Tami in 1980; her parents; two brothers; and one sister.
