Melvin Grant of Winston, OR, died from aged related causes on Friday, October 26. He was 90 years old. Mr. Grant was born in Harlan, OR, to Noel Lester and Althea Mae (Brown) Grant. He graduated from Harlan High School in 1940, and married Peggy Ruth Schmid on June 13, 1942. She passed away in Dec. 1995. He later married Clara (Wheeler) Huff on November 18, 1997.

Mr. Grant served in the Naval Air Patrol Bombing Squadron from September, 1942, and received an Honorable discharge in 1946, rate AMM 2nd Class.

Melvin worked as timber faller, log hauler, and then as self-employed road builder contracted by Willamette Industries. He purchased the home ranch from his parents and lived there most of his life, moving to Prineville in 1998, and then to Winston in 2009. He attended the First Christian Church in Prineville. Melvin loved riding his horses, working them on cattle ranches, attending rodeos and horse events and competing in team penning and cutting contests. He also loved to dance, play pinochle, and travel. He loved visiting Hawaii and made several trips there, once riding for the Parker Ranch for a week.

He is survived by his wife, Clara; son-in-law, Bob Fodge; a grandson, Brent of McMinnville and his wife, Keeli Miller Fodge; two granddaughters, Tonya Fodge of Albany, and Jami and her husband, Donnie Vroman of Junction City. He survived by six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by five step- daughters, Pamela (Jeff) Eisner, Linda Huff, Patricia Huff, Teresa (Doug) Gideon, and Cindy (Rich) Lund; 10 step-grand-children, 26 step-great-grandchildren and two step- great-great-granddaughters.

He will be dearly missed by all his extended family and his many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Susan Fodge, two brothers, Frank Grant and Norman Grant, two sisters, June Grey and Joyce Grant. He was also preceded in death by three infant sisters.

A funeral service is set for 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 2, at McHenry Funeral Home in Corvallis. Casket will be open one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Harlan Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent via: www.mchenryfuneralhome.com. McHenry Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
