Alma Elizabeth (Spencer) Shortreed of Redmond, OR, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on January 20, 2013. She was 86.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. at Terrebonne Assembly of God Church, located at 279 NW Smith Rock Way in Terrebonne, OR. A reception will immediately follow.
Alma was born September 12, 1926, in Sterling, Colorado, to Dean and Minnie (Mitchell) Spencer; and along with her sister, Alice and brother, Alan were triplets. As a young girl, she moved to Southern Oregon with her family, eventually settling in Redmond, OR, where she graduated from Redmond Union High School and lived for more than 51 years. She married Lester Shortreed in Redmond, OR in 1949.
Alma spent most of her career working in the food service industry as a chef and owned and managed a number of Redmond's most popular restaurants and cafs.
She was an avid bowler and also enjoyed playing cards with friends and of course, baking. But, most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.
Alma is survived by her sons, William "Kenneth" (wife, Linda) Shortreed of Houston, TX, Wayne E. (wife, Kathleen) Shortreed of Terrebonne, OR, and Spencer T. Shortreed of Redmond, OR; daughters, Mary P. (husband, Donald) Lisius of Olympia, WA, and Cathy E. Miller of Redmond, OR. Other survivors include Alma's triplet sister, Alice Johnson of Redmond, OR; her sisters, Ruth Hylton, also of Redmond, OR, and Lois Buchanan of Charlotte, NC; 15 grandchildren and many great- grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband; her parents and two brothers and one sister.
