Central Oregon Community College and OSU-Cascades’ Season of Nonviolence will feature a series of events celebrating the legacies of Martin Luther King Jr., Mahatma Gandhi, Cesar Chavez, Wilma Mankiller and other advocates for nonviolent change.
Here is a list of events:
Today: A spiritual diversity conference featuring Allan McKiel, author of “Beyond Tolerance: Religion and Global Community," and Wajdi Said, founder of the Muslim Educational Trust. 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., COCC’s Willie Hall.
Monday, Feb. 11 and Feb. 25: “The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Color Blindness," a book discussion with professor Jim Foster. Noon to 1 p.m., 118 Cascades Hall on the OSU-Cascades Campus.
Thursday: A question-and-answer session with photojournalist Joel Preston Smith about how we view Iraqis and the Iraq War. 6:30 p.m., COCC’s Hitchcock Auditorium.
Feb. 20: “Nonviolence and Social Justice: Lessons I Learned from my Grandfather," a presentation by Mahatma Gandhi’s grandson Arun Gandhi. 6:30 p.m., COCC’s Willie Hall. A private reception will follow. To register, email kaylward@cocc.edu.
