Gov. John Kitzhaber unveiled his priority list for the state’s higher education construction projects Tuesday, placing the expansion of Oregon State University-Cascades campus near the top of the list.
“This is what we’ve been waiting for,” said Rep. Jason Conger, R-Bend, who has been pushing for the expansion.
The $16 million in state bonds will help turn OSU-Cascades into a four-year university. The governor’s priority list puts the OSU-Cascades project at No. 3 out of a list of more than 30 projects.
All told, the governor is proposing spending $242 million in state bonds on university and community college construction projects. It’s up to lawmakers to give their final approval. Other projects on the list include a career technical center at Klamath Community College and an expansion of University of Oregon’s Erb Memorial Union.
