May 21, 2012 4:00 am

Seen from Bend, a crescent of fire, About 80 percent of the eclipse was visible from Bend with proper viewing glasses. Elsewhere in the U.S. and Asia, it appeared as a rare “ring of fire” eclipse, with the moon passing in front of the sun leaving only a golden ring around the edges.
