Anthony’s Homeport Bend

You can imagine a restaurant with its own wholesale seafood company is serious about its salmon and shellfish.

Such is Anthony’s, a Washington-based family of restaurants that has become synonymous with seafood in the Puget Sound. Consisting of 24 restaurants mostly surrounding the Puget Sound, Anthony’s in December opened its first Oregon location at The Shops at the Old Mill District in Bend.

Overlooking the Deschutes River, the new Anthony’s Homeport Bend may be farther from the ocean than most of its locations, but distance won’t deter the restaurant’s commitment to offering the freshest seafood possible, said Lane Hoss, vice president of marketing.

The family of restaurants (”We’re not a chain!” Hoss said) has staked its reputation on its ability to deliver fresh seafood, and they do so in abundance.

Highlights from the menu include Alaskan wild Chinook salmon, roasted on an alder plank and topped with red pepper beurre blanc with Yukon Gold garlic mashed potatoes, pan- fried Willapa Bay oysters and whole Dungeness crab, cooked daily and served ”Whidbey Island style.”

All of Anthony’s fish are wild and no farmed fish products are used, Hoss said.

For diners preferring turf to surf, New York, filet mignon and top sirloin steaks are available.

Each entree is served with either a cup of clam chowder or a salad and a basket of freshly baked sourdough bread from Bend’s DiLusso bakery.

For appetizers, oysters are available on the half shell. Other appetizers available include calamari, Dungeness crab cakes and garlic herb mussels.

Anthony’s Homeport Bend occupies a new building in the heart of The Shops at the Old Mill District. Inside, the trademark Anthony’s fish logo can be seen in the shape of a barroom table and hanging from the ceiling in a chandelier featuring hundreds of hanging copper fish.

”It gives the restaurant a sea feeling,” Hoss said of the decoration, ”but not in a hokey way.”

Outside, the three decks can seat up to 155 people.

Hoss said that she hopes Anthony’s location will encourage Les Schwab Amphitheater concertgoers and shoppers to stop in for a drink or a meal.

”We’re a casual dinner house,” Hoss said. ”You don’t have to be dressed up to come in.”
