- The Supervillains
I bet when you were making predictions for 2010, you didn’t list “Central Oregon ska revival,” did you?
Sure enough, though, the party-friendly offspring of punk and reggae is doing just fine, thank you very much, due in large part to the hard work of Redmond ska band Necktie Killer, plus the folks at Mountain’s Edge in Bend and Timbers North in Redmond.
All those people came together to host popular California ska band Mad Caddies a while back, and this weekend, The Supervillains, from Florida, will roll through the area for a couple of shows.
For 10 years, The Supervillains have been taking their vibrant sound across the country, and they, too, are starting the year off right with a stint supporting reggae legends The Wailers on tour. The band’s most recent album, “Massive,” came out in late 2008, and they promise new songs when they come to Central Oregon.
The Supervillains’ sound is classic reggae and ska, employing the off-beat rhythms of the island, tons of punk-rock energy, and, of course, more horns than a traffic jam. You can hear what they do at www.thesupervillains .com.
