The second annual Fleet Feet Freezer, a donation-based run-walk event for all ages on Saturday, Feb. 2, will benefit a Deschutes County family in need of help.

The family includes a single mom who is employed part time and has two daughters, ages 13 and 20, who live at home.

The mom is a former drug addict who has been drug-free for eight years but was recently diagnosed with hepatitis C. She will take disability leave while she takes interferon for the virus, according to the event website. Rent and utilities are challenging for the mother, who now has additional medical bills.

Last year, the first annual Fleet Feet Freezer drew more than 70 participants and raised more than $1,500 for a single father in Bend who had four boys with Celiac disease.

The free, untimed 5K and 10K run or walk starts at 8:30 a.m. It starts and ends at Fleet Feet Sports, 1320 N.W. Galveston Ave., Bend.
