Trucks are not the problem

In response to the Jan. 10 letter regarding road damage by trucks:
You are very misinformed if you think trucks do not carry their weight for repairing the roads. Have you checked with the Oregon Department of Transportation lately to see how many millions of dollars truckers pay to the state through the Oregon Mileage Tax? We pay 0.1638 cents for every mile our truck travels in Oregon. Also, keep in mind our licensing fees — $2,000 each year.
I hope you are not talking about the ruts in the roads caused by studded tires on cars. The weight of the trucks does not cause these ruts — their 18 tires will handle their weight without causing ruts. How about a studded tire tax?
We decided someone needed to speak up for the trucking companies.
