Deaths of note from around the world:
Ceija Stojka, 79: Survived three Nazi death camps and then found her life’s work: Raising awareness of the Nazis’ persecution of Roma — also known as Gypsies — in her art and her writings. Died Monday in Vienna.
Butch Morris, 65: Creator of a distinctive form of large-ensemble music built on collective improvisation that he single-handedly directed and shaped; he called it “conduction,” short for “conducted improvisation.” Died Tuesday in New York.
