A team of six — three department heads and three city councilors — is scheduled to sit down Thursday to conduct a round of Skype interviews with six finalists for Redmond city manager.

This step comes after a three-month search and 47 applications received.

The last city manager, David Brandt, left his position in September after two years in Redmond. The first search was conducted immediately after Brandt left but was unsuccessful in finding a candidate.

The city’s initial goal was to have the final three candidates in town for in-person interviews April 4, but that has been pushed back to April 25.

“I had trouble getting all my councilors together,” said Interim City Manager Sharon Harris. A consulting company, Taylor Protocols, handled the search for the city and vetted the first round of applications, sending just 14 onto Redmond for consideration. Those candidates were from Oregon, Washington, California, Utah, Oklahoma, Colorado, Texas and North Carolina, Harris said.

The first search cost $7,800 and the second is expected to run about $8,700. The city manager’s salary will depend on experience, but is expected to be about $125,000.

For the first time, Redmond city managers will be required to live in or around the city, within the 97756 ZIP code. The City Council made that change in October, after Brandt left.

According to Harris, three finalists will be chosen after the Skype interviews, then background checks and interviews will be conducted to prepare for in-person interviews on April 25.
