In Jeff Mapes’ article, “GOP talks up modernization,” in The Sunday Oregonian, Greg Walden complained that President Obama called House Democratic leaders on election night and told them he would help them take back the House in 2014.

He then whined, “Shouldn’t the first call for the President have been to the speaker of the House and the majority leader of the Senate to say … let’s park the campaign weaponry and sit down and figure out how to solve these problems?”

I would like to remind Walden that on the night of President Obama’s first inauguration, former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich and others met for dinner and plotted how to stop the President’s agenda. In an interview for the National Journal, Sen. Mitch McConnell said, “The single most important thing we want active is for President Obama to be a one-term president.”

This has been the Republicans’ game plan from the beginning, and as long as they continue to follow this course of obstruction, why wouldn’t we want to replace them with someone that is willing to do the difficult job of governing?
