Barbara Zanon passed away after a brief illness on Wednesday, March 27, 2013, in Albany, OR. She was 84 years old.
Barbara was born in North Apollo, PA, on August 15, 1928, to Chester and Laura Campbell Sloan. Her youth was spent in western PA, and she eventually moved with her parents and sisters to western WA, settling in Bothell, WA.
Barbara graduated from Bothell High in 1946, and soon met her future husband, Rupert Zanon of Snohomish, WA. Barbara and Rupert were married on September, 7, 1947, and soon after moved to Prineville, OR, for her husbands job. Over the years as the family grew and jobs changed, The Zanons lived in OR, CA, and WA. eventually settling back in Bend, OR, in the mid-1960s. Barbara was a devoted wife and mother who took great pride in her children and grandchildren, and was a friend to all she encountered.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Rupert, and an infant son, Daryl Sloan Zanon. She is survived by her three sisters, Maxine Scott of Carolina Beach, NC, Betty Stitt of Woodinville, WA, and Mary Lou Pingrey of Sammamish, WA; her three sons, Randall Zanon of Arvada, CO, Duane Zanon of Oroville, CA, and Michael Zanon of Salem, OR; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a memorial service for Barbara on Friday, April 12, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. at the Niswonger- Reynolds Funeral Home chapel in Bend, OR, followed by an internment service at the Greenwood Cemetery in Bend. A reception after the services is still being planned.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Mennonite Village, 5353 Columbus St. S.E., Albany, OR 97322 in Barbara’s memory.
