Bend’s King wins 4th Horse Butte

Max King led a sweep by Bend runners of the top three places in Sunday’s eighth annual Horse Butte 10-Mile Trail Run. On a windy morning, King, 32, posted a time of 58 minutes, 18.7 seconds, on the course southeast of Bend to win the Horse Butte race for the fourth year in a row.

Second overall among a total of 187 finishers was Mario Mendoza, 27, in 59:08.2, and third was Santi Ocariz, 26, in 59:54.4.

In the women’s division, Portland’s Stephanie Crawford, 35, was the first finisher (19th overall) in 1:09:51.4. Second among the women was Bend’s Jody Chinchen, 33, in 1:11:40.6, and third was Ahna Jura, 38 and also of Bend, in 1:15:15.2.
