SUNRIVER — Summit rolled past Ashland (6-2) and Portland’s Wilson High (8-0) on Friday during the first day of the Central Oregon Class 5A Dual Championships girls tennis tournament at Sunriver Resort and earned a spot in today’s championship bracket semifinal round.

Ridgeview High also went 2-0 on Friday, topping Mountain View (5-3) and West Albany (5-3) to snag another semifinal berth. Bailey Simmons won both of her matches at No. 3 singles, while Kourtney Wellette also posted a pair of wins at No. 1 doubles with different partners. The Ravens and the Storm, Intermountain Hybrid rivals, will play one another for a spot in the tournament final at the Tennis Hill courts at 11 a.m.

Event host Bend High finished the day 1-1, defeating Lebanon 7-1 before falling to Sherwood 7-1. The Lava Bears play Pendleton, a program they will see at the Class 5A Special District 1 tournament next month, in the semis of the silver bracket.

Redmond and Mountain View both went 0-2 on Friday. The Panthers lost 5-3 to Pendleton and 8-0 to Crescent Valley. The Cougars dropped matches to Ridgeview and West Albany (8-0). Redmond takes on Lebanon today at 8:30 a.m. in the bronze bracket and Mountain View matches up against Wilson, also in the bronze semifinals.

Summit 7, Mountain View 4: Tyler Munsell threw 4 2⁄3 shutout innings to pick up the win and helped his own cause by going 2-for-3 with a run batted in, as the Storm scored seven unanswered runs to take the Intermountain Conference victory. Erik Alvstad went 3-for-4 for Summit (10-10 overall, 4-5 IMC), and Blake Garrison finished 1-for-3 with a pair of runs driven in. For the visiting Cougars (5-11, 1-2), Kyler Ayers led the way with a 3-for-3 performance with an RBI, and Brock Powell was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

Sisters 10, Elmira 0: ELMIRA — Joey Morgan pitched a complete-game two-hitter while striking out six to lead the Outlaws to their 14th straight overall win and ninth consecutive Sky-Em League victory. Morgan also went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in, and Sam Calarco was 1-for-3 with a three-run double. Eli Boettner and Ben Larson each picked up two RBIs in the five-inning win.

Sweet Home 6, La Pine 5: LA PINE — The Hawks rallied back from an early 5-0 deficit to send the game into extra innings, but the Huskies cobbled together two hits and a sacrifice bunt in the top of the eighth to win the Sky-Em League contest. “We started off really slow,” said La Pine coach Bryn Card, whose team had just one hit through the first four innings. “It took us a while to get going.” Jesse Young led the Hawks (6-14 overall, 5-5 Sky-Em) with a 2-for-4 performance at the plate that included one run scored and one run batted in. Tucker Allen added two hits.

Ridgeview 8, Crook County 3: REDMOND — The Ravens defeated the Cowboys for the third time this week to improve to 12-6 overall and 3-0 in Class 4A Special District 1 play. Ridgeview has now won seven of its past 10 games. Crook County (6-12, 0-3) has lost seven of its past nine.

North Marion 6, Madras 5: AURORA — The White Buffaloes dropped to 10-8 overall and 4-5 in Tri-Valley Conference play with the league loss. Madras is tied with Gladstone for the third spot in the TVC with six games remaining.

SOFTBALL

Summit 7, Mountain View 3: The Storm took the series from the Cougars, 2-1, after scoring five runs in the top of the seventh inning of the Intermountain Conference contest. Jacqueline Manley earned the win, limiting host Mountain View to just six hits. Morgan Freeman paced the Storm (3-15 overall, 2-7 IMC) at the plate, going 2-for-5. Mackenzie Serbus and Hannah Wicklund recorded two hits apiece to lead the Cougars (3-16, 1-2).

Crook County 7, Ridgeview 6: PRINEVILLE — The Cowgirls weathered a Raven four-run first inning and rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh to pick up a Class 4A Special District 1 win. Jena Ovens was 3-for-5 with a home run, a triple and two runs batted in for Crook County (10-10 overall, 1-2 SD1), and Miranda Smith went 2-for-4 with two doubles. Brittany Peterson led Ridgeview (11-7, 2-1) with a 2-for-4 day at the plate, while Shelby Abbas tripled.

Sisters 6, Elmira 3: SISTERS — The Outlaws opened the bottom of the first inning with back-to-back-to-back doubles by Cassidy Edwards, Tiffani Milliman and Lauren Cantwell and never looked back in the Sky-Em League contest. Cantwell ended the game 3-for-4 with one run batted in, Milliman went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Edwards contributed two hits and an RBI. In the circle, Edwards fanned 13 while allowing six hits. Sisters (15-2 overall, 9-1 Sky-Em) has now won its past eight games.

Sweet Home 16, La Pine 0: SWEET HOME — Kinsey Pinckney went 1-for-2, but that was the Hawks’ lone hit, as La Pine dropped to 2-15 overall and 0-10 in the Sky-Em League with the five-inning defeat.

Molalla 7, Madras 4: MADRAS — The White Buffaloes held a 4-3 lead heading into the top of the sixth inning, but the Indians put up two runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh to take the Tri-Valley Conference win. Sarah Brown paced Madras (12-8 overall, 4-5 TVC) by going 2-for-3, and Keely Brown doubled and drove in a run.

Girls tennis

Madras 8, Santiam Christian 0: MADRAS — Megan Foristall had the match of the day, according to White Buffaloes coach Dave Jordan, coming back from a first-set loss to win the next two 6-4, 6-2 to lead Madras to a Class 4A/3A/2A/1A Special District 2 victory. The tandems of Sophie Gemelas and Jenny Young (No. 2 doubles) and Amanda Olivera and Maira Olivera (No. 4 doubles) each won their respective matchups 6-0, 6-0.

Boys tennis

Summit, Mountain View go undefeated: REDMOND — Parker Nichols went 2-0 on the first day of the Central Oregon Duals in Redmond, as Summit’s Black team defeated The Dalles Wahtonka 7-1 and Redmond 8-0. The tournament consists of two round-robin pools, the second of which is to be completed today, before starting a championship bracket. Summit Green, led by a 2-0 record by the doubles team of Max L’Etoile and Davis Calande, went 1-1, defeating Ridgeview 8-0 before falling to Bend 5-3. Mountain View beat Redmond on sets 9-8 and knocked off The Dalles Wahtonka 6-2. The Cougars swept each doubles matchup in both contests. The Panthers received wins by Zach Powell, Calen Fitzsimmons, Stephen Witherow and Blake Johnston in singles action against Mountain View, but each player lost against Summit Black. The Ravens rebounded to beat Pendleton 6-2, led by singles wins from T.J. Smith, Brett Blundell and Colin Ronhaar.

Boys golf

Rodby medals again: SUNRIVER — Mason Rodby carded a 7-over-par 79 to claim his third medalist honors of the week while leading Redmond High to an overall 332 and a first-place finish at the four-team Lava Bear Crosswater Tournament. Bend High, which split into Bend Bear and Bend Lava, saw Jaired Rodmaker record an 80 for Bend Bear and Max McGee do the same for Bend Lava. Bend Bear was second as a team with a 336, and Bend Lava took third with a 345. Ridgeview, which was fourth with a 406, was led by Jimi Seeley’s 90.

BOYS LACROSSE

Summit 10, Corvallis 3: CORVALLIS — Dylan Smith posted two goals and an assist and Nick Rasmussen and Dylan Seefeldt each scored twice as the Storm cruised past the Spartans in nonleague action. Summit (9-6 overall) led 6-0 at halftime. Zack Dean added a highlight for the Storm with his first varsity goal.

Girls lacrosse

Bend United 12, Corvallis 6: CORVALLIS — Kyra Hajovsky registered three goals, three others finished with two, and Bend United improved to 5-3 overall and 5-1 in South League action. Tori Landin, Katie Alhart and Kama Remley each netted a pair of goals for Bend United.
