A 24-year-old man is facing murder and manslaughter charges in Jefferson County this morning following the death Sunday of another man on a hunting excursion south of Madras, according to Sheriff Jim Adkins.

Deputies arrested Montana Silk Marlett a half-hour after the death around 1:30 p.m. Sunday of Devon Moschetti, 19, of a shotgun blast to the face, the Sheriff’s Office reported. Marlett is held without bond allowed; a grand jury convenes Tuesday to hear the case against him, Adkins said this morning . Moschetti, like Marlett, was a Jefferson County resident.

Adkins said investigators have not determined what prompted the shooting.

“Even the witnesses don’t know what caused him to do this,” Adkins said.

He said the two men had no history between them. “It’s a really weird deal.”

According to the Sheriff’s Office: Marlett joined his brother and Moschetti and two others on a rabbit-hunting party seven miles south of Madras on South Adams Drive. Marlett’s brother was not identified by the Sheriff’s Office. “For unknown reasons, Montana Marlett intentionally pointed a shotgun at Devon Moschetti and shot him and then he fled the scene.”

Marlett fled the scene but surrendered without incident at Boyce Corral.
