Bend United takes league lead with win

Bend United moved to the top of its league standings Sunday, holding off previously undefeated Roseburg 12-10 in an Oregon Girls Lacrosse Association match played at Bend’s Summit High School.
Tori Landin scored five goals to lead Bend United in its regular-season finale, while Katie Alhart had two goals and three assists and Kyra Hajovsky scored two goals for the winners.
With Sunday’s decision, Bend United improved to 8-1 in South League play and Roseburg dropped to 7-1. Marist of Eugene (5-1) is still in contention for at least a share of the regular-season title in the 10-team league.
Against Roseburg, Bend United opened up a 6-2 lead and led 7-4 at halftime. The margin was 9-4 in the second half before Roseburg reeled off four consecutive goals to close within 9-8. Bend United never lost the lead, however, though Roseburg got within 10-9 and 11-10 late in the match.
Also scoring for Bend United were K.J. Hellis and Allie Rockett, each with one goal, and Cayley Allen registered two assists. Darion Maldonado played a strong game in goal for BU and was credited with six saves.
Bend United (8-3 overall) has qualified for OGLA postseason play and is expected to open the playoffs next Monday, opponent and site to be determined.
