Hundreds ride in Sisters Stampede

SISTERS — Bend’s Ryan Trebon and Portland’s Sue Butler were winners of the men’s and women’s elite divisions in Sunday’s fourth annual Sisters Stampede.

The cross-country mountain bike race, staged primarily on singletrack on the Peterson Ridge Trail system south of Sisters, attracted riders in more than 30 competition categories. More than 500 riders finished the race, which covered 27 miles for all but Cat 3 participants, who raced a 12-mile course.

Trebon’s winning time was 1 hour, 30 minutes, 29 seconds. Second among the elite men was a rider from Switzerland, Oliver Zurbruegg, just two seconds back in 1:30:31. Butler’s winning time in the elite women’s race was 1:46:09; second was another Portlander, Beth Ann Orton, in 1:49:50.
