Linfield wins national title — Chris Haddeland threw a complete game and Linfield scored four runs in the fourth inning en route to a 4-1 victory over Southern Maine in the championship game of the NCAA Division III Finals Tuesday evening at Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton, Wis. Linfield captured its third national championship in baseball — but first in the NCAA era — adding to NAIA titles in 1966 and 1971. Haddeland allowed one run on eight hits with three walks and five strikeouts en route to his school-record 15th pitching victory of the season. A perfectly executed squeeze bunt from Kyle Chamberlain highlighted a four-run fourth inning that proved to be the deciding play in the final game of the tournament. Linfield improved to 42-8 for the season.

Suns hire Hornacek as coach — The Suns turned to a former player after one of the worst seasons in franchise history, officially hiring Jeff Hornacek as their new coach Tuesday. Hornacek spent the first six of his 14 seasons as an NBA player with Phoenix. Multiple reports over the weekend had Hornacek getting the job, and the Suns made it official with Tuesday’s announcement that he would be the club’s 16th head coach. The 50-year-old Hornacek had been an assistant with the Utah Jazz since 2011. This is his first head coaching job. He takes over a team that went 27-55 last season.
Hawks name new coach — The Atlanta Hawks have named longtime Spurs assistant Mike Budenholzer as head coach. Drew’s contract expires in June following three seasons as coach. Budenholzer spent the past 17 seasons as an assistant with the Spurs, including the past six years as the top assistant for coach Gregg Popovich. The Hawks say Budenholzer will continue serving as the Spurs’ top assistant until the conclusion of the NBA Finals.

The league officially announced Tuesday that the 2014 edition will be held May 8-10 at Radio City Music Hall because of a scheduling conflict in April at the venue. The NFL has yet to decide on dates for drafts in 2015 and beyond. Radio City is hosting an Easter show next year that conflicts with the NFL’s typical window for the draft.
