COTA offers trail etiquette

The Central Oregon Trail Alliance recently announced the “Trail Love, Share It!” trail etiquette campaign to encourage proper use of local trails.
The campaign has posters that convey three main points on sharing the trails and preventing trail damage: “Look, Listen, Smile,” “Descending Riders Stop For Others” and “Tread on Trail.”
Downhill riders should not skid out of control and should be prepared to move to one side of the trail to yield to uphill riders, stopping until their line is clear.
When stopping to yield, bikers should not ride off into the bushes because doing so can widen and damages trails. Instead, they should put a foot down and keep their tire tread on the trail.
