Steer wrestler shines in Sisters

SISTERS — Mount Vernon cowboy Trevor Knowles turned in the second-fastest steer wrestling run in the history of the Sisters Rodeo on Friday night, recording a time of 3.7 seconds to grab the lead in the bulldogging event.

Knowles, one of the favorites to win the all-around cowboy award, also scored in the night’s fastest tie-down roping time, a mark of 8.6 seconds.

Culver’s Brian Bain posted the top bareback score during the first main performance of the Sisters Rodeo, a 78. Wade Sundell, of Boxholm, Iowa, was the high scorer in the saddle bronc competition with an 82.

Hermiston’s Jade Crossley still leads the barrel racing standings with a time of 17.50 seconds, which she achieved during Thursday’s slack, but Terrebonne’s Brenda Mays is second after her 17.93-second mark Friday night.

Only three bull riders registered scores Friday with Parker Breding, of Edgar, Mont., leading the way with an 86.

The Sisters Rodeo continues today with two performances. The first starts at 1 p.m. and the second begins at 7 p.m.
