WASHINGTON — The Food and Drug Administration and the Consumer Product Safety Commission announced Friday that they would form a committee to develop voluntary standards for adult portable bed rails, which have been linked to the deaths of hundreds of elderly patients.
Bed rails are used on hospital beds and in home care to assist patients in pulling themselves up or helping them out of bed.
