A man police allege stole a tractor and fled a civilian witness is jailed this morning following his capture by a Bend police dog, according to the Bend Police Department.

Jeremy Dwayne Kelso, 34, of Bend went free at 5:04 a.m. from Deschutes County Jail on his own recognizance this morning, according to the jail. He was treated at St. Charles Medical Center, Bend, for minor bite injuries, then lodged overnight on charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, conspiracy to commit unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, three counts of reckless endangerment, and second-degree criminal mischief.

According to Bend Police: Kelso stole a medium-sized tractor around 12:35 a.m. near American Lane and Brosterhous Road in east Bend. A call to 911 stated the caller had interrupted the theft and was following Kelso, who fled the scene with the tractor on a trailer in tow. Turning off the road into an undeveloped property in attempts of eluding the caller, Kelso drove into a ditch at Brosterhous and Murphy Road and fled on foot.

When officers arrived, a woman told them Kelso had carjacked her with her two young children, ages 1 and 6, and had driven around Bend for the last 30 minutes. The officers discovered that the woman, 30-year-old Alida Bridget Kelso of Bend, was a co-conspirator in the theft, according to police.

Police used a dog, Haras, to track Jeremy Kelso to a nearby home, where he was apprehended after initially resisting arrest, according to police.
