Mirror Pond Invitational set to tee off

The oldest golf tournament in Central Oregon will tee off today at Bend Golf and Country Club.
The annual Mirror Pond Invitational, which was first played in 1953, will feature a field of nearly 120 amateurs, including some of the top players from around the Pacific Northwest and beyond.
About 60 percent of the field in the two-day, 36-hole stroke-play tournament are single-digit handicappers, according to tournament organizers. Among those players will be Bend’s Charlie Rice, a 48-year-old who won the Mirror Pond in 2012 and advanced to the round of 32 in this week’s Oregon Amateur Championship.
Play begins both today and Sunday at approximately 8 a.m., and the final groups both days are scheduled to tee off at 1:30 p.m. Spectators are welcome to attend the event at no charge; proper golf attire is required.
