Local teams set for all-star tourneys

It is that time of the year again when Little League all-star teams in Central Oregon compete to become Oregon District 5 champions.

Bend North and Bend South Little Leagues will host this year’s double-elimination District 5 All-Star Tournament, which gets underway Friday and runs through July 6.

Opening ceremonies will take place Friday at Vince Genna Stadium. Tournament play for all divisions will begin on Saturday.

Thirteen leagues will be represented at the District 5 tournament: Bend South, Bend North, Jefferson County, Warm Springs Nation, Crook County, South Central, Sisters, Redmond, Hermiston, John Day River, The Dalles, Hood River and Columbia.

The softball Majors (ages 9-12) tournament will be played at Mountain View High School and will continue through July 1. The 10-and-under and Junior (ages 12-14) softball tournaments will be played at both Mountain View High School and Summit High School, concluding on July 4. Also at Summit and Mountain View is the 11-and-under softball tournament, which runs through July 3.

The Junior (ages 12-14) and 50/70 (intermediate, ages 11-13) baseball all-star tournaments will play through July 2, all at High Desert Middle School. The 10-and-under, 11-and-under, Minor (ages 7-11) and Major (ages 10-12) divisions play through July 6 at Lava Ridge Elementary School and Skyview Middle School.

Winners of the District 5 tournaments will continue on to the Oregon Little League all-star state tournaments at sites throughout Oregon. The Majors and older leagues will compete at state to advance to regional play. District 5 will also host the state Junior (ages 12-14) and Senior (ages 13-16) Little League all-star baseball tournament July 27-28, according to Elizabeth Hisatake, District 5 administrator.
