Two cougar cubs were sighted this morning on private property northeast of Bend on Boonesborough Drive near the intersection with Dale Road, according to Sgt. Deke DeMars with the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office

The reporting citizen did not see any adult cougars, according to DeMars. Responding deputies were unable to locate the cougars.

The DCSO would like to remind the community to never disturb animal carcasses, especially those believed to be a cougar kill. If there are confirmed sightings in your area, do not walk your dogs at night. It is recommended that residents keep outside lighting on in the areas where livestock are present to help deter cougar kills. Always supervise pets and children when playing outside.

There are many residential areas within Deschutes County, near rural settings, in which cougar sightings are prevalent. If you come in contact with a cougar or other wildlife, do not run. Move slowly, keeping the animal in view as you move out of the area. If there is a perceived danger, please notify law enforcement as soon as possible.

An employee with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife was contacted and made aware of this cougar activity.
