A shooting in La Pine on Friday afternoon put one man in the hospital and another in the Deschutes County jail, said Capt. Erik Utter with the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office.

Late Friday, the Sheriff’s Office identified the suspected shooter as David Morehouse, 60, and the victim as Charles Williams, 43.

Deputies and medical personnel were dispatched to a home in the 52000 block of Golden Astor Road just after 2 p.m. following a 911 call reporting a man shot multiple times in his chest with a handgun.

“The individuals involved were both residents at the address, and there had been some verbal altercations throughout the day,” Utter said. “The alleged shooter was disarmed by individuals at the scene and was taken into custody by responding deputies.”

Williams was treated at the scene and transported by ground ambulance to the La Pine Fire Department. He was then flown to St. Charles Bend. As of 8:20 p.m., Williams was in critical condition at St. Charles.

Law enforcement has been to the same address 11 times in 2013 for other domestic disputes, warrant service and animal control issues, Utter said.

Morehouse was lodged in the Deschutes County jail on charges of attempted murder, first-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon.

Neither Morehouse nor Williams has any prior criminal record in Oregon, according to a review of the state courts system database.
