Dec. 12, 1929 – June 30, 2013

On June 30, 2013, Barbara J. Lutz joined her Creator, and her high school sweetheart and soul mate Jack Lutz in eternity, and she smiled. She was surrounded by her much loved family, son, Don Lutz of Portland; daughter, Linda (Lutz) Lawrence; son-in-law, Bob Lawrence; and granddaughter, Tamara Lawrence from Olympia, WA.

She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and her life-mate, Jack Lutz. She is survived by her sister, Pat Smith of Ashland; and many family members.

Barbara was born in Salinas, KS, on Dec. 12, 1929. The family moved to Grants Pass, OR, when she was eight.

Barbara married Jack Lutz during her senior year and graduated from Grants Pass High School in the spring of 1947. She assisted Jack as he completed his education at Southern Oregon College. Following his graduation, they moved to Hines, for two years; then to Bend, where they settled in 1954.

She loved children and worked for Bend schools, Allen Elementary before it burned and Pilot Butte Elementary, for a total of 31 years, which was the longevity record at the time.

Barbara hunted, biked, cross-county and water skiied, and fished with Jack, was an accomplished league bowler, played bridged, and was the number one fan of Mountain View basketball. She covered her deck and rock gardens with flowers, and African violets bloomed year round in her home.

A memorial gathering will be held July 21, at Compass Park in NorthWest Crossing, from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Instead of flowers, donations to the Jack and Barbara Lutz Memorial Scholarship Fund can be made at any Bank of the Cascades branch.
