Deaths of note from around the world:

Leonard Garment, 89: A lawyer who was a friend and adviser to President Richard Nixon as the Watergate scandal unfolded and who urged him not to destroy tapes of his conversations. Died Saturday at his Manhattan home.

Vice Adm. Eugene P. Wilkinson, 94: Commanded the Nautilus, the U.S. Navy’s first nuclear-powered submarine and the first machine to harness atomic fission for propulsion rather than weaponry. Died Thursday in Del Mar, Calif.
