Wildfire near La Pine grows, evacuations underway at Antelope Meadows

Authorities are evacuating Antelope Meadows subdivision as a wildfire that started at 3:30 p.m. today burns its way southeast toward the community.

The fire, now called the Stagecoach Fire, has blackened 400 acres about five miles south of the U.S. Highway and State Highway 31 junction, eight miles northeast of Gilchrist.

Evacuees are being sent to the John Johnson Building, 16405 First Street, La Pine, according to the Central Oregon Interagency Dispatch Center.

Klamath County Sheriff’s Office is working with Klamath County Search and Rescue to evacuate Antelope Meadows subdivision and will evaluate additional evacuations as needed, according to the dispatch center.

The fire cause remains under investigation.

Approximately 35 firefighters on six engines, one handcrew and two dozers are currently fighting the fire, with significant assistance provided by five airtankers and one Type I helicopter, the center stated in a news update. Two hotshot crews are expected to arrive Tuesday and a Type 3 Incident Management Team will take over command of the fire at 6 a.m.
