A Bend driver convicted for fleeing the scene when he struck and killed a man pushing a bicycle across Third Street was released from the Deschutes County Jail on Monday.
Bret Biedscheid, 40, was booked into jail June 12, one day after he was convicted on a charge of failure to perform the duties of a driver. He served 55 days of a 90-day sentence.
Biedscheid was driving south on Third Street in January 2011 when he struck Anthony “Tony” Martin near Revere Avenue. Martin died at the scene while Biedscheid drove home, then contacted Bend Police a few days later through his attorney.
At trial, Biedscheid agreed to enter a guilty plea on the charge of failure to perform the duties of a driver in exchange for prosecutors dropping charges of criminally negligent homicide.
