A 31-year-old transient man is in the Deschutes County jail after police suspect that he attempted to rape a woman at a transient camp.

According to Bend Police, just after 10:50 p.m. Saturday a 69-year-old transient man named Don Wichmann called 911 to report a rape in progress. A woman could be heard in the background of the call yelling, “Don’t touch me.”

When officers arrived at the scene, the 21-year-old Bend woman was pulling away from the suspect.

An investigation found that Wichmann, the woman and 31-year-old Jacob Ryan Schoenborn had met earlier that evening at a transient camp on Northeast Fourth Street and Thurston Avenue.

The trio then left the camp, according to police, and went to Wichmann’s camp near 1720 N.E. Fourth St., where Schoenborn allegedly forced the woman to the ground and began assaulting her. Wichmann called 911, which police believe stopped the attack.

Schoenborn suffered some minor facial injuries from the woman fighting the attack; she did not require medical attention.

Schoenborn is currently in the Deschutes County jail on suspicion of first-degree attempted rape, first-degree sex abuse, coercion and fourth-degree assault.
