To hail and back

Hail, heavy rain, high winds: The National Weather Service says a late summer storm brought all that to parts of Oregon on Thursday. On the Cascade Lakes Highway, a semi trailer blasted through fresh hail — lots of it, though the bits of ice weren’t as big as the “golf ball-sized” chunks reported in Malheur County to the southeast. Rain stayed mostly west of the mountains (more than 11⁄2 inches in one hour in the Valley) but wind gusts reached 70 mph near Sisters. And then it all cleared up, basically. Plus, we’re looking at a pretty pleasant week — though be prepared for showers. See a full weather report at www.bendbulletin.com/weather.
