Oregon State Police arrested a La Pine motorcyclist Monday who hid in a hunter’s tree stand after fleeing police.
Chris Campbell, 30, was held in the Deschutes County jail on charges of felony attempt to elude, reckless driving and recklessly endangering another person. He was also cited for driving on a suspended license.
According to OSP: Trooper Jason Hansen attempted to stop Campbell for license and equipment violations near U.S. Highway 97 in La Pine. Campbell fled and continued past an OSP fish and wildlife trooper, Darin Bean, onto U.S. Forest Service land east of the La Pine cemetery.
The troopers lost sight of the motorcycle in the dust raised on the dirt road. They broke off the pursuit, but tracked the bike through the dust cloud until tracks showed it left the road. The troopers on foot tracked the bike for a mile until finding it abandoned, then tracked footprints to a tree. At 11:44 a.m., they found Campbell and his female passenger in the tree stand 20 feet high.
The female was not arrested.
