August unemployment rates in Central Oregon were largely unchanged from July, the fifth straight month of stagnant job growth, the Oregon Employment Department announced Monday.

Deschutes County’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 9.9 percent in August, down from 10 percent in July, according to a news release. It marked the first time in more than five years that the county’s jobless rate dropped below 10 percent, but the number of employed county residents rose by just 163 over the month.

Crook County’s seasonally adjusted jobless rate was 12.6 percent in August, the same rate as July. Jefferson County’s August unemployment rate was 10.9 percent, up from 10.7 percent in July, according to the Employment Department.
