When does La Pine get a traffic light at First Street and U.S. Highway 97? I have lived in La Pine for 23 years. This question was brought up many, many times before.

Far too many people have died at this intersection — many close calls and lots of accidents. Granted, the speed here is 35 mph but far too many drivers are still doing 55 when they enter this area.

I myself have had several close calls. Drivers in a hurry get mad and can’t wait for traffic to clear. They pull right out in front of an oncoming car or truck, praying to God they will stop in time. If not? Bingo, 911 gets a call.

Now they are saying, in two years, the light will be installed.

We need it now. How many more wrecks or people killed does the highway department need before it gets off its duff?
