(March 21, 1941-October 14, 2013)

Janis Elaine Paschall, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully Monday morning, October 14th, after a long, hard-fought battle with cancer. Her liveliness and spirit will be deeply missed. The family thanks all those who assisted Janis during her final days, including the wonderful caregivers from Visiting Angels.

Born and raised on a dairy farm near Menlo, Washington, Janis sang in church, school and community events, and gave private piano lessons. After graduating as valedictorian from nearby Valley High School, she married, and, while valiantly—and skillfully—managing her type-1 (juvenile) diabetes, bore three children.

During this time, she attended Portland University and Western Oregon College, eventually earning her degree and teaching certification. Meanwhile, she attended the Southern Baptist Church in Beaverton, singing and accompanying the choir.

After moving to Willamina, Oregon, Janis taught piano students, and eventually began teaching primary classes at Willamina Grade School. She also played and sang at the Willamina First Christian Church.

Upon moving to Bend, Janis taught primary classes at Pilot Butte Elementary School (now Juniper), and attended and provided music at the First Presbyterian and First Baptist Churches there

Later, she worked for a time in real estate, and, for many years, attended and lent her talents to the Assembly of God Church in Redmond. In recent years, she enjoyed vacationing with her husband and spending time with her children and many grandchildren.

Janis leaves behind her husband, Howard Paschall; sister, Charlene Olson of Phoenix, Arizona; daughter, Katherine Martin of Redmond; son, Ronald Martin of Chicago, Illinois; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Gladys Kosinski; by her brother, Charles; and by her youngest son, Allan Martin, who passed away on February 19.

A graveside service for Janis will be held at the Redmond Memorial Cemetery at 11 A.M. on Thursday, October 17th. A celebration of her life will be held at the Redmond Assembly of God Church at 2 P.M. on Sunday, October 20th.
